Online gambling legal status further complicated by judge’s ruling.
The already existing drive to scrap the federal government’s online gambling ban was recently given a boost by a South Carolina judge’s ruling. The judge ruled that poker should, in fact, be considered a game of skill, rather than one of pure chance, as anyone who has ever played will quickly tell you. While the ruling has no bearing on the law that was brought in three years ago it does further complicate a legal situation that is far from cut and dry. The fact remains that there is not a bona fide anti online gambling law, but rather an opaque prohibition that has been enforced primarily by bullying companies into not accepting payment for Internet gambling.
These unclear set of legislation may not be able to cover games of skill, thus making the attempt to repeal the law more solid. It remains to be seen whether this will have a bearing on the current drive to repeal, but it certainly seems to give weight to the arguments being put forward by all those against the ban.
