HISTORY OF BLACKJACK - THE ORIGIN OF BLACKJACK GAME

Both online and in bricks and mortar casinos Blackjack is the undisputed number one casino game on the planet. Players of this ever popular card game will tell you that it is so well known because it is exciting, fun, there is money to be made and most importantly it is very easy to pick up. The rules are as simple as this: basically you win with the jack and ace of spades. The game itself goes back to seventeenth century Europe. The French are often credited with the invention of the game due to the similarities between it and Baccarat. There is an earlier French game called 'Vinght En Un', which translates to 'Ace & Jack' and this is thought to be the progenitor of the modern game of Blackjack.

Blackjack spread over most of the world owing to its simplicity and ease to learn. With the growth of Casinos in the early twentieth century it grew like never before becoming the card game synonymous with casino gambling. The nest phase of its development was to take place in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries where the explosion in online gambling led to the game of Blackjack being taken to the next level and spread to all four corners of the globe. Today there is always, at any time, a choice of online Blackjack games and tournaments being conducted at any one time. One of the great moments in its development just prior to the online revolution was the publication of a book titled “Beat the Dealer”. Beat the Dealer came out in 1963 and was written by a mathematician by the name of Edward Thorp who explained how to use card counting techniques to beat the dealer at Blackjack. The success of his system caused the Casinos to have to change the rules of Blackjack slightly as this new technique was beginning to eat into the house advantage. They counterattacked by introducing multiple decks and by outlawing the practice of card counting.

Nevertheless Blackjack continues to grow and doesn't seem to show any signs of stopping. The online game has revolutionized the way we play and it doesn't look like there are any other contenders forthcoming for the title of ultimate casino card game.
